Workshop on

Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure Analysis

October 22-24, 2001, Warsaw, Poland

Sponsored by EU via CELDIS: Center of Excellence for Physics and Fabrication of Low Dimensional Structures at Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland

Workshop Chair: Krystyna Lawniczak-Jablonska,
Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland

The interest in using x-ray absorption spectroscopy for new materials characterization still increases due to the fact of reasonably easy access to synchrotron radiation at facilities participating in the EU 5th Framework Programme. The aim of the workshop is to gather scientists who would like to be acquainted with x-ray absorption spectroscopy and to offer them the tutorial and advanced lectures on x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The lectures will be devoted to x-ray absorption near edge structure analysis (XANES) as well to extended x-ray absorption fine structure analysis (EXAFS). In the afternoons the introductory lectures to the computer programs used in the EXAFS analysis will be presented together with the possibility of practicing on prepared model data. Several computers will be within participant’s means but the own notebooks are welcome. At the beginning of the workshop the proceedings with the overview of lectures, computer programs and CD with free copy of EXAFS analysis programs will be distributed. The number of participants is limited. To participate in the workshop please send the following data to the Secretary Office address liberz@ifpan.edu.pl: name and affiliation, contact addresses and short motivation. We will confirm your participation in a few days. The participation is free of charge but you should pay the cost of your stay in Warsaw. We can help you with hotel reservation. Workshop will be held at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Science, 02-668 Warszawa, Al. Lotników 32/46.
